TE MOANA NUI - WHERE TO NOW?, 2019

Coming from a space of us, rather than I.
This work opens its basis to inform from, into a place of us.

Us; who speak nothing of our native tongue but who hope to.

Us; who stand on lands we know nothing about but who wish to.

Us; who acknowledge the past and now seek to embody our cultural hopes and wishes for the future.

This gathering or hui holds a kete of sorts, a basket that is to be passed around and filled between us, This kete will then sit as an archive of knowledge to pick and be informed by. By doing so, the basis in which my work is to be made from is collaborative. Extending into a variety of modes of making; creating bodies of work that speak of us. Responding to our pasts, taking a stance now and speaking to the future.
