About
SALTWATER/Interconnectivity is a point in time to come together amid an ever-changing landscape. A space to talanoa, celebrate, and critique our ways of life. A place to share our experiences within an ecosystem of complexities that inform who we are as saltwater people.
Toto,
Mehemea ka pātai mai koe ki ahau, “He aha Te Awa o Waikato ki a koe?” Māku e kī atu, he rite tonu ki te toto o ōku tūpuna.
If you were to ask me, “What are the waterways to you?” I’d answer and say: they’re like the blood of my ancestors.
Seven bucket-sized collections of different types of uku, including oneone sand, were gathered in alignment with the māramataka, from the surrounding bodies of water in Waiuku—where our tūpuna once gathered and harvested kai.
